Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann announced as FDP Lead Candidate

Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann was born in 1958. She is married and has three children. After graduating from high school, she studied journalism, politics and German at the LMU in Munich and also received her doctorate here. Phil. She then worked as a publishing representative in sales for the Tessloff youth book publisher for over 20 years. She has been active in local politics in Düsseldorf since 1999 and has been a member of the state capital's council since 2004.

From 2004 to 2009 and 2014 to 2017 she was chairwoman of the FDP council group, from 2008 to 2014 she was first mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf and from 2013 to 2019 Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann was deputy federal chairwoman of the FDP.


She has been a member of the Federal Executive Board since 2019 and has also been a member of the Bundestag since 2017. Strack-Zimmermann has been chairwoman of the Defense Committee in the German Bundestag since December 2021. At the federal party conference in April 2023, she was nominated as the top candidate for the European elections.
