On 18 March, ALDE Party member Mouvement Réformateur (MR) in Belgium published its full list of candidates for the European elections in June.
Last month, the party announced that former Belgian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sophie Wilmès will lead the list.
She is followed by Olivier Chastel MEP, one of the party’s two current representatives in the European Parliament and already MR’s lead candidate for the last elections in 2019.
Agriculture expert Benoît Cassart takes third place in the list, ahead of Laura Hidalgo, President of MR’s youth movement.
The list, completed by Adrien Croonen, Arminé Hareyan, Tanguy Stuckens and Anne Barzin, was presented during a press conference on Monday as Wilmès highlighted the European interest and experience of all candidates on the list.
“A strong list for a strong Europe! With a view to the EU elections, the colours of MR will be carried by a determined team of inspiring and complementary candidates. We have a single ambition: a better Europe,” said Wilmès.
“For us, the big challenges facing our society today are the climate challenge, tax justice and social justice, security and defence, but also strategic autonomy on the industrial level. We have extremely important and strong personalities in MR on this list,” said party leader Georges-Louis Bouchez.
Belgium will hold the European elections on 9 June, as citizens will head to the polls to elect 22 MEPs.
